Unexpected Thrills Are The Best Ones
We were in Milan, Italy. It was the last day of our holiday trip.
Over nine days, we had travelled through three cities in two countries, walked dozens of miles, and viewed hundreds of lovely sights and scenes.
All of it had been carefully planned. We enjoyed every bit of it – but, frankly, there was little ‘surprise‘.
Until that morning in Milan, as we walked down Corso Buenos Aires on our way to the Duomo Cathedral.
Strolling briskly down the wide, quiet avenue early that morning, the subtle police presence on the silent streets was the first indication that something was afoot.
On the next block, we caught our first glimpse of what we later learned was the Street Show 2018 by QUATTRORUOTE.
And what a show it was!
Classic automobiles of rare vintage stood beside the latest models of luxury sports cars.
I gawked, open-mouthed, at brands I’d only read about or seen in movies before – Ferraris and Lamborghinis, Alfa Romeos and Porsches, Audis and BMWs, and lines of other deluxe cars.
Suddenly, we realized it was late for our visit to the Duomo Cathedral, and hurried away reluctantly.
On our way back, even though it was getting late for our flight back home, we couldn’t resist dragging our feet a little to watch some more.
It was thrilling… in a special way.
Because it was unexpected.
The best things in life often are!
