Mental Focus : How To Be Focused
3 Exercises to Increase Mental Focus
What is mental focus? How can you improve your mental focus?
Those who have a tough time trying to concentrate on most things around them are often unable to focus their minds. It is not only those who suffer from attention deficit disorders who face such challenges. Most average people are caught in this perplexing position at some point in their lives.
However, mental focus and clarity of mind can be increased with the help of some concentration exercises. These exercises can be practiced at any time of the day and if pursued correctly, they will not only help to improve one’s memory but also boost their awareness of the present moment.
Here is a list of some of simple exercises that can help to increase one’s mental focus.
While meditation may seem quite effortless in terms of physical effort, one has to try very hard to learn how to focus his or her mind on the present moment. The subject has to sit in a quiet room where there are no distractions so he or she can close their eyes and breathe in a rhythmic manner.
The aim of the exercise is to eventually focus on the breathing pattern and let all other thoughts pass. This mere concentration exercise has shown to calm one’s mind and improve mental focus.
This exercise can be carried out within the quiet walls of one’s home or even in a densely crowded place. The exercise requires the subject to count backwards in their mind from hundred to one. Once that has been accomplished, the subject can move on to a more challenging level where he or she counts backward again but this time using only the even numbers.
The third round will follow a similar pattern but the subject will count the odd numbers instead. The last level is the toughest where the subject must count backwards but skip every three numbers. If this exercise can be completed flawlessly, one will notice a significant improvement in mental focus.
In this exercise, the subject is expected to pick an object of his or her choice and observe every aspect of it. From the colour to the texture, from the direction of light to the shadows it is casting – every tiny aspect of the object has to be observed.
The challenge is to keep the mind from wandering off and wondering about other things. After the subject has observed this object, he or she must close their eyes and visualize it in their minds. If the subject can see the object and all its details with closed eyes, he or she is making noticeable progress with mental focus.
These are the basic exercises that one can begin with if he or she finds it difficult to focus on specific things and concentrate. There are many such similar exercises that can help individuals improve mental focus but they are more challenging and take a longer time to master. Upon completing these exercises successfully, people feel like they can concentrate much better than before and there is usually little need to pursue the tougher mental exercises.

How To Stay Motivated
Everyone is seeking motivation, but only few find it, or understand why so many people lose it in the first place. Today, millions of people are interested in knowing how to stay motivated long enough to achieve something worthwhile in life.
What is motivation?
It’s a natural desire in a person to accomplish something, combined with energy and passion to reach his or her goals. People who are motivated have an inner desire to take on new tasks and fulfil them within a specific time. This gives them a sense of achievement.
Before you understand how to stay motivated, you must understand its importance in your life. Motivation is important to achieve something in life. Without motivation, you will throw up your hands at the slightest indication of adversity.
Motivation is a trigger that encourages and inspires us to do our best. A motivated person will do anything under the sun to succeed in his or her goals. Motivation can also change your life by inspiring you to achieve everything you want in your life, no matter what others tell you. It is even possible for a poverty stricken person to turn the tide in his favor with motivation.
Motivation gives you passion that you should start exploring all options in life and that you should have courage to turn your dreams into reality. If you are unhappy with your current situation, it’s likely that where you are right now doesn’t motivate you strongly enough to change.
Once you become aware of things that make you happy and can change your life, you would immediately jump out of bed and start working towards them. It’s important that your goal is clear to you because it will pave the way for success.
Factors that may lead to loss of motivation
- Lack of direction – You won’t feel motivated to achieve your goals if you are not clear about them in the first place.
- Lack of focus – If you don’t know what you want to achieve, you won’t accomplish anything.
- Lack of confidence – Believing you’ll fail is the best way to ensure that you do – and vice versa.

How To Be Focused
6 Helpful Ideas To Keep You On Track
Why do people find it so hard to be focused while working or studying? It perhaps is because of too many distractions around that they find difficult to resist.
It is a general problem that the thing you are supposed to do always seems less interesting or boring than other activities going on nearby. However, you need to complete the task you are engaged upon, and for that you need to be focused.
Here are some tips that will help you learn how to be focused.
Make your work exciting
As already mentioned, a big problem is that the work you are assigned generally seems to be boring compared to those around. But why not try to make your work exciting. According to psychologists if you are completely into what you are doing, you will not get distracted by other things around. So, your first tip for how to be focused is to make your work exciting.
Set a target
Next, you need to try and quantify your result. How would you want the end result of your staying focused effort to be? Visualize the end result. Now, ask yourself if that’s within your reach. Will you feel satisfied when you achieve it? If your answer to these questions is “Yes”, then the target you have set is tantalizing enough, and you will put in enough efforts to achieve them.
Set both long and short term goals
Your target might be quite a long shot, so it will be a great idea to set some shorter term goals to keep giving you a feeling of accomplishment each time you reach a milestone. A proper goal setting system will show you the perfect way to break your target up into smaller sub-goals, and make sure that you progress according to your plan. As you try and achieve your targets and goals you will stay focused.
Keep distractions at bay
You obviously know that while you are working, anything can end up distracting you. So you need to keep all such things away. Turn off your mobile phone while working, and tell those around you to talk softly. Turn your music system and the TV off, and stay as far away from them as possible. If you really want to know how to be focused you must keep all unnecessary stuff out of sight and reach.
Learn to concentrate
If you meditate it will greatly help improve your concentration. It is not necessary that you always need to be in an arduous yoga pose to mediate. Sit in any comfortable position and then try to focus on something for a decided amount of time. This will help improve your focus greatly.
Rewards play a very important role in the learning process. When you achieve your goal, award yourself something more than a mere pat on your back. Treat yourself to something nice. You might go out to watch a movie or have dinner with friends. This will compensate you for all the effort you have put into hitting that milestone, and motivate you to give your best in the future you as well.
Follow these simple tips on how to be focused and you will start noticing great positive changes in yourself within no time at all.
